Biology – Pathogens, Pedigrees & Processes
Advisor: Ms Jennifer Sanderson
This unit is specifically designed to better prepare students for VCE Biology. Pathogens, Pedigrees & Processes will explore cell structure and function, expanding on the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration as part of a functioning system of plants. The concept of homeostasis and maintaining balance will be used to investigate a number of plant and animal systems, focusing on immunity and the human immune response. DNA structure will be used to study genetics and patterns and characteristics of inheritance. The topics covered in this subject lead to career pathways such as but not limited to; Medical Sciences including Nursing, Microbiology and a Laboratory technician, Animal Husbandry industries, Zoology and Horticulture
Biology – Diffusion, Division & Differentiation

This unit is specifically designed to better prepare students for VCE Biology. Diffusion, Division & Differentiation will explore cell structure and function, focusing on cell transport and movement across the plasma membrane. DNA structure and the cell cycle will be used to investigate cell division and reproduction and differentiation at the cellular level. The classification, diversity and evolution of plants and animals will be studied with a focus on adaptations. The topics covered in this subject lead to career pathways such as but not limited to; Medical Sciences (plant and animal) including a laboratory technician, IVF, Pathology and Plant reproduction and Environmental Sciences.
Chemistry
Advisor: Ms Mara Macs
This one-semester unit is specifically designed to better prepare students for VCE Chemistry. Chemistry exposes students to the properties, structure and bonding forces within a compound or molecule. Students will develop their skills in using and interpreting the periodic table. They will draw and explain the electron structure of atoms, as well as writing and balancing chemical equations and identifying the products of a variety of different chemical reactions.
Physics
Advisor: Ms Mara Macs
This one-semester unit is specifically designed to better prepare students for VCE Physics. Ideas in physics are dynamic. As physicists explore concepts, theories evolve. Often this requires the detection, description and explanation of things that cannot be seen. In this unit students examine some of the fundamental ideas and models used by physicists in an attempt to understand and explain the world. In this Unit, students will investigate and describe motion and forces using classical physics laws. They will describe the concepts of light and energy and represent energy transfer and transformations in systems. Students will also explore magnetism, the effects of magnetic fields and investigate electromagnetism. The unit will conclude with students designing and undertaking a scientific investigation on their own chosen area of physics.
Psychology – What Makes Us Tick?

This unit is specifically designed to better prepare students for VCE Psychology. The unit will focus on three areas of Psychology: neuroscience, educational psychology, and sports psychology. Students will have the opportunity to study the anatomy and physiology of the brain and nervous system, theories around learning and memory, the role of motivation, stress response and mental factors that affect performance and how damage or disability of the brain can affect functioning. Psychology offers diverse career paths, from clinical psychology to counselling psychology. Other careers include forensic, education, sports or academic psychology.
Psychology – Nature vs Nurture
Advisor: Ms Eirinn Taylor
This unit is specifically designed to better prepare students for VCE Psychology. The unit will explore how addiction and personality traits are inherited or an impact of the environment. It will also look at how nature vs nurture plays a part in serial killers and intelligence. This unit will also provide an understanding of mental health factors and explains the biopsychosocial model in regard to mental health. Finally, the unit covers sensation and perception with a range of practical activities. There will be a research component as well as report writing skills taught within the unit. Psychology offers diverse career paths, from clinical psychology to counselling psychology. Other careers include forensic, education, sports or academic psychology.
