Year 10 Technology electives
Product Design and Technology – Woodwork Techniques & Projects (Sem 1) &/or Applied Woodwork Design & Making (Sem 2)
Advisor: Mr Jay Liedel
This course is for students who have successfully completed Year 9 Woodwork and are ready to extend their skills and creativity. In Year 10 you’ll take on more complex projects that challenge your precision, problem-solving, and design thinking – focusing on small furniture or functional items suitable for use at home or school.
You’ll continue to develop confidence using a wider range of tools, materials, and techniques, with an emphasis on the design process. You’ll explore different types of joinery, incorporate design elements, and produce projects that reflect both function and personal style. This semester builds on your previous experience and prepares you for the potential of senior woodwork subjects or certificate-level vocational training. The 2026 Subject Levy is yet to be confirmed
Product Design and Technology – Materials Engineering
Advisor: Mr Tony Schaefer
This elective provides students with the opportunity to consolidate and build on the skills developed at year 9, to ensure the students are gaining industry relevant skills and knowledge. The students continue with their OnGuard training, learn how to complete JSA’s (Job Safety Agreements), and other related industry requirements. Students can learn new skills such as welding, grinding and steel fabrication, and learn about the origin, processing, and application of materials with a strong emphasis on sustainability. They learn about sustainability models and how to apply them when designing projects. They develop a design brief for an individual project and learn how to read and construct technical drawings as done in industry. The program also includes an excursion to the Ballarat Technical School where students engage in current technological advancements and practices. All Materials Engineering units include a subject levy. This is to be confirmed for 2025.

Product Design and Technology – Food Studies
Advisor: Ms Emma Rhodes
Have you ever thought about why you eat the food you do? Do you want to learn how to make good food preferences? Choose this unit and learn how to make informed preferences about what you eat. Make preparing and eating food an enjoyable experience. This unit involves both theory and practical sessions. Students must have appropriate footwear, two tea towels and a 2-litre container to participate in practical classes. Both Food Studies units include a subject levy. The 2026 subject levy is yet to be confirmed.
Product Design and Technology – Being Job Ready In Hospitality
Advisor: Ms Emma Rhodes
Through this practical classroom-based course you can build a complete set of skills that will enable you to start a passion for the world of hospitality. This program will allow you to undertake units in both cafe, bakery and takeaway catering and coffee production. Students must wear the appropriate footwear and apron to participate in practical classes. Both Food Studies units include a subject levy. The 2026 subject levy is yet to be confirmed.
Systems Engineering – Engines
Advisor: Mr Dean Jones
Students must design and construct a solution to an engineering problem or need. This solution may be electrical or mechanically based, or an integrated system. Students must develop a plan including an estimate of materials required, a logical sequence of steps to complete the task and an evaluation criterion to be used to evaluate the project on completion. Multiple techniques and skills can be developed including soldering, welding, engine repair etc. during construction of the model. Students also are required to complete an assignment investigating the impact of a technological system on the environment. All Systems Engineering units include a subject levy. The 2026 Subject Levy is yet to be confirmed.
Systems Engineering – Electronics
Advisor: Mr Dean Jones
Students can choose to continue projects from semester one or begin a new task in semester two, however, a new plan will need to be developed to explain how the task is to be completed. Students also are required to complete an assignment on a new technology or techniques in manufacturing, e.g. 3D metal printing. All Systems Engineering units include a subject levy. The 2026 Subject Levy is yet to be confirmed.
